Meemure

 Dear Meemure

Meemure is one of the most isolated villages in Sri Lanka. In one corner of the village of Meemure, surrounded by thickets of smoldering forest, is Lakegala Kanda, the world's largest fully exposed granite mountain. The ancients have a memory that it has been guarding the village square of Meemure so gloriously since ancient times. Of course it is. All those who have seen Mount Lakegala rising like a great giant feel the same.In addition to that, the surrounding area is full of beautiful waterfalls such as Oyabokka Diyakarella, which has not yet been included in the records. They can see rows upon rows of those beautiful paintings that captivate the hearts of tourists at the village square of Meemure. At a distance of 175 kilometers from Colombo city, we can see Mount Lakegala in the Dumbara forest area.

Bordered by Meemure village on one side and Laggala on the other side, Lakegala hill has a pyramidal shape. Located next to the borders of Matale and Kandy districts, this huge rock has an inclination of almost 90 degrees. The ancients believe that this was the fortress of King Ravana in the distant past. There are many reasons why it is so. Examples of this are the protection provided by other mountains, the difficulty of climbing it easily, and the fact that one can see the surrounding area from the peak of Lakegala. It is special that the movie "Suriya Arana" was shot in this Meemure village and the forest around it. The characteristics of an ancient village can still be seen here, where the movie Suriya Arana was shot. Lakegala villages, which are linked to the legend of Ravana, stand like a giant in the background. From Hunnasgiri to Meemure, one can see many major mountains of Knuckles mountain range on the way.

Meemure is a village with a population of about 400 people. It is located near the border between Kandy District and Matale District in the Knuckles Range.

Meemure is one of the remotest villages in Sri Lanka and is 14 kilometers (8.7 mi) from Lulwatte.

There is no cellular service in the village, but there is CDMA phone service.

The village has no mail delivery; A villager walks to the post junction every day to exchange incoming and outgoing mail with a postman.
