Kenawa Island

Kenawa Island

Kenawa Island looks like a thorn that emerges from the ocean. This small island does have a unique contour that cannot be found on any other islands.

Kenawa Island has been widely known among (mostly) Indonesian domestic tourists because of its unique topography. This island is mainly a grassland that has a hill at the end. Here are some brief facts you need to know about Kenawa Island.

Location and how to get there

Kenawa Island is located on Alas Strait, between the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa. The location of Kenawa Island is closer to Sumbawa so administratively, Kenawa Island is part of Poto Tano district, West Sumbawa Regency.

Although it is located between two relatively large islands, it is still rather complicated to reach Kenawa. If you depart from the port of Pringgabaya Lombok, you must transit at the port of Poto Tano on Sumbawa Island before then crossing to Kenawa.

The charm of Kenawa

When you come to this island, you will find a long wooden dock. The dock will lead you to a lovely white sand beach and eventually to a grassland. Almost all of the island is indeed a grassland. There is a path that will lead you to a hill.

Wherever you cast your sight, you will see a beautiful sea view. If you walk along the path until it reaches the top of the hill, the scenery you see will be very stunning. Not only the blue sea, but you can also see many other islands around Kenawa.

Camping ground

On the edge of the Kenawa grassland, there are many huts that you can use to shelter from the sun and rain. However, many tourists come here with the intention to camp, to enjoy a night under a starry sky in the middle of the ocean. Camping is allowed on this island, with various strict rules.

If you come during the dry season, the grass on this island can be very dry so you are not allowed to start a fire. You are not allowed to leave any form of garbage here. In addition, you must also use reliable tents because the wind here can blow at high speed.

Tips

If you want to come to Kenawa Island, you should make good preparations. Research and find the best route you have to take, and bring adequate supplies because there is no accommodation on the island. If you do not bring camping equipment, you should not stay overnight on Kenawa Island because the wind can be very harsh.

Make sure you bring photographic equipment because this place is very photogenic. Kenawa Island’s topography is very unique and you will not be able to find similar scenery elsewhere. Take as many photos as possible here. Kenawa Island is especially good if photographed from above using a drone.

Kenawa Island is a small, simple island. This island has beautiful white sand beaches, grasslands, and a small hill. You will need a considerable effort to get to this island, but all paid off when you see the wonder that is Kenawa Island.
