Dolukanda is a mystical mountain. It is popular among mountaineers, but you need to get permission from the monks first. Reverend monks will give you some advice as you climb. The journey is difficult. A little you will find the footpath. But be sure to go early. Then you will be able to climb the mountain before dark. Be sure to get down early as the area gets completely dark around 4pm.
Dolukanda is a famous mountain range because of Dolukanda Buddhist temple. The mountain is believed to be directly related to the great Indian epic. In the story of Ramayana, this mountain is called Dolukanda Sanjeevani Kanda and it is believed that a part of the Himalayas fell on this mountain when it was carried by Hanuman. This hill is an important place of pilgrimage in Ramayana.
Sri Lanka. It is believed that one can find an animate magical herb in this mountain that can be used to cure many ailments.
